Overcoming the Pitfalls and Delays to Abundant Living
By: Dolores Lee
How long is it going to take us to get to the 12th Day! What could have been an 11-day journey for Israel to Canaan, from Kadesh, turned out to be a 40-year wandering experience in the wilderness because of idolatry, disobedience, obstinacies, pride, lust, and a lack of faith. Sound familiar? Oh, if only Israel had learned to trust in their Deliverer, they could have reached Canaan on the 12th Day – and so can we!!
During our sanctification process, we’ll all go through the wilderness! The length of our wildernesses will partly depend on us. The Twelfth Day parallels the journey Israel took from the land of Egypt to the place of purpose, the Promised Land. The children of Israel left Egypt and took an Epic journey to Canaan. The shortest route to Canaan was through the Territory of the Philistines in the direction of Beersheba and the Negeb (It led along the Mediterranean Sea). But the route chosen by God was southeastward toward the Sinai to avoid possible military confrontation with Egyptian guards who might encourage the people to return to Egypt and consequently back into bondage1 - another familiarity - A little trouble and a little confrontation and we’re ready to turn back to the comfortable known way.
I’m not talking about making it to heaven. I’m talking about understanding who we are and whose we are; learning to walk in obedience and the integrity of the Word, fulfilling destiny, living in the promises and experiencing abundant living here on earth! No matter how long your wilderness journey, you will not advent the Plan, the Process and Purpose of God for you, before you reach Canaan land! Exodus - Bible Knowledge Commentary
